Megan Jones is Co-Director of Mind the Gap. She is a conservation social scientist based at Oregon State University in the U.S. Geological Survey Oregon Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, where she uses mixed methods approaches to understand conservation communication and behaviour. Her work focuses on how to bridge the gap between conservation practice and social science theory, so that science can support the protection of nature and people, and practice can support the most useful science.
She has worked on various projects internationally in the UK, the US, Kenya, Norway, India, and Belize including women’s conservation leadership initiatives, native plant gardening, research on environmental volunteering, ecosystem restoration, watershed development planning, conference coordination, and forest protected area management. Megan regularly works as a facilitator for conservation practitioners and scientific teams, using participatory approaches to support partnership development, for example with the development of a Mental Health Strategy in southwest Scotland, community development training with communities in Warrington, England, and in wildlife and fisheries management in western north America.
